Becky Gerritson, President of the Wetumpka Tea Party and influential conservative activist, issued the following statement regarding the news of Speaker John Boehner’s impending resignation:
“The resignation of Speaker Boehner is a victory for conservatives across the nation who have grown tired of broken promises, a culture of capitulation and a record of failed leadership. As we look ahead, we must work to make sure that our Party’s new leadership is willing to boldly stand for conservative principles that respect life and liberty rather than raising the flag of surrender to President Obama’s lawlessness.
We must also realize that John Boehner is merely a symptom of the culture problem in Washington. Those who have continually elected him, supported him and who, time and time again, have shown an unwillingness to fight for conservative principles still remain. While we acknowledge today’s victory, we must realize that we will not bring conservative change as long as status quo, establishment politicians continue to be the majority of our Party in Congress. As we stand at this crossroads, we must resolve to elect new leaders who will fight to save this great nation.”
